Our adventure continued in the heart of the Hisma Mountains, where we had the unique opportunity to spend the night in a remote Bedouin camp. Saudi Arabia is known for its rich Bedouin culture, and staying in one of their traditional nomad tents was an experience we’ll never forget. The tents were arranged in a way that offered breathtaking views of the valley, creating a tranquil, serene environment. The communal tent, central to Bedouin life, became our gathering place for tea and stories with our guide, Ahmed, and his companion Yousef, who welcomed us into their world with warmth and hospitality.
As we were the only ones in the entire camp and the valley, we were able to embrace the full beauty and solitude of the landscape. The highlight of the evening was an unforgettable spiritual stargazing experience. With the vast desert sky stretched out above us, we immersed ourselves in the peace and stillness of the night, watching the stars twinkle in the crisp, clear air. It was an enchanting way to end our time in the Hisma Mountains.
We kicked off the day with Arabic coffee and a short hike to a viewpoint that offered spectacular panoramic views. It was the perfect way to start the day—breathing in the fresh desert air while taking in the sweeping beauty of the land around us. After the hike, we got our adrenaline pumping with a thrilling off-roading adventure across miles of desert dunes in the Hisma Valley. This part of the desert, nestled between Jebel Al-Lawz on the west and the plains of Tabuk on the east, is a true natural wonder.
Our first stop was Ship Rock, an awe-inspiring formation that’s home to thousands of ancient inscriptions. Climbing to one of the highest points, we were treated to a stunning view of the surrounding desert. Even Mammaw, ever the adventurer, couldn’t resist the pull of the landscape and made her way up to take in the beauty from this historic place.
