Celebrating Veterans' Day - Every Day!

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, hostilities ceased on the Western Front as Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies ending the Great War. It was believed that this was “the war to end all wars” and the date was commemorated as Armistice Day. On November 11 Americans pause to remember those who have served in the armed forces.

This year as we celebrate Veterans Day, I think about the friends we have met during the recent Wounded Warrior Parade and the amazing “Welcomes” we have shared with these heroes. I think about the way we have taught our children to value and cherish patriotism through our daily announcements, grandfriends day performances, field trips and many other ways.

As we celebrate Veterans Day it is important to reflect on how we can build on this legacy of appreciation and leave it for our children. I am proud to be part of a community that respects and honors the sacrifices made for our country and our freedom. As we remember with gratitude and compassion, all those who have protected the principles of our country through military service we model for our children. In my opinion, the best ways we can teach our children to be grateful for the sacrifices of American veterans are through our words and actions. Talk about the heroes you know, volunteer with organizations that support veterans, introduce your child to a veteran, and always thank a veteran for their service.

Thank you veterans, past and present, for what you have done for us all.
