Purpose and Heart: Reflections from Tampa
I wrapped up my time in Tampa filled with immense gratitude after spending time with the incredible community at St. Mary's Episcopal Day School.
There is a unique warmth and energy when you walk onto the campus of a school where people genuinely love what they do. Connecting with such a dedicated, passionate faculty and staff—educators who care deeply about their students and the future they are actively shaping—was a powerful reminder of why mission-driven work matters so much.
Diving Deep into the Data with Purpose and Heart
A major highlight of the visit was spending time with the Strategic Planning Task Force to dive into community feedback and survey data.
Data-informed strategic design is most effective when it isn't treated as a cold, analytical exercise, but rather as an act of stewardship. What stood out around the table was the exceptional balance of rigor, vision, and care:
Listening with Intent: Honoring the voice of parents, alumni, faculty, and leadership to understand the community’s lived experience.
Discerning Key Priorities: Synthesizing broad input into clear, actionable strategic horizons.
Heart-Centered Leadership: Ensuring every long-term goal reinforces the school's Episcopal identity and commitment to character development.
Shaping a Brighter Future Together
When a school community approaches its strategic planning with both purpose and heart, the resulting vision doesn't just sit on a shelf—it energizes the entire culture. St. Mary’s is charting a course for its future that honors its rich traditions while boldly building for what comes next.
Thanks to Steve Salvo for another great visit.
